Job title: Global Director of Proteostasis, Alzheimer's Disease
As the global head of the AbbVie Proteostasis Biology Area in Neuroscience Discovery, Dr. Matthew Townsend, Ph.D., leads a diverse team of biologists, pharmacologists and medicinal chemists in the development of novel therapeutics for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. Under his leadership, the early target portfolio in Proteostasis has emerged as one of most fruitful areas of pipeline growth for AbbVie.
Dr. Townsend received his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Yale University and did postdoctoral work at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard Medical School. During his 14 years in the pharmaceutical industry, he has worked on the biology of several neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and Frontotemporal Dementia.
